Our Key programs and campaigns:

By arming teachers we improve their ability to motivate and empower children and parents to become life-long readers.

Start a Library

Over 20,000 primary schools in Kenya do not have libraries. Lack of access to exciting and relevant reading materials has resulted in too many of our children lacking literacy and numeracy skills. Working with wonderful partners and donors, to date StartaLibrary (SAL) has:

  • Conducted over pre-assessments of library needs in 2,000 schools nationwide
  • Installed over 220 libraries in primary schools in 16 counties in Kenya
  • In partnership with KNLS and Book Aid International, among others, trained over 3,000 teacher librarians and student librarians
  • Run library programmes, monitored and evaluated impact in participating SAL schools.
  • Our latest twinning initiative encourages students from international schools in Kenya to partner and start libraries in economically disadvantaged primary schools as part of their community service learning.

Careerpedia

Storymoja also transforms lives through our holistic Careerpedia platform which incorporates career information resources, mentorship and training.

Careerpedia was the first careers encyclopaedia and Discover Your Career workbook launched in Kenya. It is designed to fill the existing career information gap for students, teachers, parents and mentors. Careerpaedia provides information about careers and helps students map their career path so that they can make educated decisions about subject selection and higher education academic or vocational courses.

With wonderful partners in the Careerpedia Mentorship Network, the Careerpedia team has:

  • Conducted interactive career workshops in more than 100 schools within Nairobi, Makueni, Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru and Nakuru Counties
  • Run a careers festival in Nakuru
  • Attracted a diverse talent pool of talent through alumni organizations and companies to become Careerpedia Mentors for students in Kenyan high schools.
