Join the Kenyan Reading Revolution! – Celebrate the Day of the African Child with Lydiah’s Gift

June 14th, 2011  |  Published in News  |  2 Comments

To commemorate the Day of the African Child, on June 16th, thousands of children around Kenya will read aloud together from the same story. The reading will start at 9:00am, and students will read aloud in groups, either in their classes or the whole school together.

This year’s theme for the Day of the African Child is ‘all together for urgent action in favour of street children.’

To highlight this the story that will be read has been co-written by two street children. The story has been deliberately not finished. Please download it below and let’s read it together on Thursday, 16th June, 2011 at 9.00am. All of us together!

Feel free to send us your own endings to the story, and we will post the best ones on www.readingrevolution.co.ke – also send us in your photos of you reading. We are hoping to set the record at 30,000 Kenyans ‘reading aloud together in different locations.’

Be part of setting a National Record in Reading. On June 16th at 9:00am, wherever you are, read the story, Lydia’s Gift out loud. The story was written to highlight the Day of the African Child. Please be
sure to verify that you have read this out loud, by registering at http://readingrevolution.co.ke/breaking-the-world-record/register-here/

maybe lydia’s mum liked him and gave him a chance to live with them
because lydia herself treats george kindly.

  • Suhayl omar

Maybe lydia’s mom gave him support and told the askari she was with them
just maybe lydias mom was ok with him staying with them
