Storymoja Blog – The Learning Experience

February 1st, 2010  |  Published in News, Reading

Creativity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual. Arthur Koestler

The writer undergoes a learning experience with every piece of work they produce. The person who believes that they know it all closes himself off from the incredibly wonderful experience of learning, discovering, growing. And this is not restricted to writing, but it flows over into every single life experience. That is why every new life change is unique.

Learn as much from writing as from reading!

Every time you taste your favorite meal, or drink is different from the last or the next. Every time you start a new relationship, it is a new life experience. There is no denying that.

To fully discover our potential, we must be willing to open ourselves up to learning, to failure, to success, not because we succeed the first time, but because we keep trying. There probably is not a writer in the world who has not faced rejection. But every successful writer will tell you the tale of determination, of sucking in their stomach and putting themselves out there again.
With that, I would like to answer the question many of you have asked me in the last few days. What happened to the Man and His Goat Picture Prompt Writing Competition? Well, as you are all aware, the contest closed on January 15th. Since then, we have been going through all the submissions. I would like to thank all of you for your submissions and support.
The team has filtered down to three finalists, but now we need your help. These weeks readings will be of those final three stories. Please read them, and vote for them on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being weak, and 10 being strong. After you have all voted, we will then award our winner with the promised cash prize, and all finalist are already entitled to a copy of the Storymoja Title of their choice. Go here to see the Storymoja Titles.

The stories below are not arranged in any particular order.

To have your story in the Story of the Week process please send it to blogs@storymojaafrica.co.ke before Friday at 4pm. Thank you for your continued support and remember; be determined to learn as much from writing as from reading!
