Dear Writers,

The Storymoja Hay Festival Season is here. As part of this great celebration of literature and books, various activities have been scheduled. You will not only get a chance to rub shoulders with great African and international writers, but you will also get a chance to fellowship with them in forums and discussions that can help us develop this great country to much higher heights.

Before I usher you into this week’s reading and voting for the Story of the Week, here are a few highlights that you might look forward to during the Festival.

In a Forum for Enterprise and Finance, you will get a chance to talk with financial analyst and columnist Aly Khan Satchu on Stocks – What is hot, What is not.

In a Forum for Women Development, you get a chance to discuss with this topic- Challenging Stereotypes: What Drives Female Entrepreneurs?

You will also get a chance to discuss how blogs and social networks have affected culture and how you can use them to promote your business or your art with Njeri Wangari, James Murwa, Eudiah Kamonjoh, Kaume Marambii.

Keep an eye on Storymoja for details of specific programmes during the festival that you might specifically be interested in.

And now for this week’s reading, which I would like to remind you is part of the ongoing Storymoja Hay Festival Story of the Month.

And now… What would you say about losing your freedom amidst all the madness and mayhem that is hardly sanity in this world we live in? We begin with Simon Mbuthia’s Cell of Freedom.

And what if your wife just simply refused to adhere to the common rules of propriety? What would you do? Denis Kabi’s My Wife is a Tomboy.

Finally, here is Stephen Mwangi’s take on corruption, and the truth about witchcraft. The Fall.

Please vote for the three stories above. The story that you vote as the story of the week will get a chance to compete for Story of the Month. The winner of the Story of the Month, which will indeed be the Storymoja Hay Festival Story of the Month, will get tickets to the Festival, and will have a chance to experience an incredible celebration of life, words, and culture. If you would like your story to compete for the Story of the Month, send in your 1000 word story to blogs@storymojaafrica.co.ke before the end of Wednesday, 15th July, 2009.

I am truly looking forward to publishing your stories here.

Editor.
