Mohamed Haroun Kafi - Sudanese diplomat and writer

Honourable Minister Mohamed Haroun Kafi Aburas, Sudanese writer and Diplomat will be at the Storymoja Hay Festival with his daughter Ludia Shima Haroun.

Mohammed Haroun Kafi Aburas

Sudanese, from the Nuba Mountains /S. Kordofan State. Born in Kadugli 15th August 1949

· -1.Writer /Journalist, translator/interpreter and Diplomat.

· 2.Participated in the Sudanese Liberation War struggle of John Garang as a Senior Officer and Political Commissioner

· 3.A minister 3 times: Environment and Tourism, Government Federal Bureau and Transitional Council for The Nuba Mountains.

· 4.Presently a member of the Sudan National Assembly

· 5.Member of the Pan African Parliament

Ludia is 24 years of age, and an upcoming poet. She has written a book with her father, and hopefully will publish her own one day. Ludia says, ‘I noticed my talent in poetry when I wrote a poem in high school and won an award. My dream and my aim in the world is to change my country, Sudan, and especially my home area, The Nuba Mountains, and make it known on the world map. Many writers ask where are the Nuba Mountains? Can writers come from the Nuba Mountains? The answer is Yes! We are here today.’

They will be attending the Storymoja Hay Festival Session below

Friday 31st July, 2009 at 2pm to 5.30pm at the Diversity Stage

Sudanese writers discuss the challenge of narrating stories of their homeland long associated with ethnic strife, genocide and religious conflict with Father Omollo and Joseph Ngala.
