Come one come all….

‘Cut Off My Tongue’ is a Storymoja production based on poetry by Sitawa Namwalie and is a dramatized poetry show that incorporates spoken narrative, music, dance and movement. Performed by versatile women from different professional backgrounds, whose love for the arts has brought them together; the show critiques today’s society for a better tomorrow. It addresses contemporary issues affecting Kenyans such as the sensitive topic of ethnic relations.
Although the poetry focuses on Kenya, it deals with issues that other African countries are currently addressing. It distils the essence of life in Kenya in its most fundamental form. Individual poems form interrelated stories that explore different aspects of life from large global themes to more intimate personal recollections and spaces.

The body of work traverses five key themes which include:
• Place and evolving identity
• Politics and political critique
• Love and desire
• Tradition and genealogy

Until now “Cut off My Tongue” has been one of Kenya’s best-kept secrets. In 2008, after two public performances at the Ramoma Gallery (June 2008) and Kenya National Museum (August 2008) to full houses and rave reviews, the show was invited to this year’s Hay Festival one of the largest literary festival in the world.
