The Civitella Ranieri Foundation is a New York-based non-profit organization operating a residency program named after the 15th century castle in which it is housed. It is located outside the city of Umbertide in Umbria, Italy. Our multi-disciplinary, international program provides writers, visual artists and composers with private accommodations and a work area, two meals per day except Sundays, for a six-week stay. UNESCO will provide the Laureate with round trip airfare to Rome from your city of origin.

Follow the detailed instructions and upload the requested materials (a resume, CV or bio no longer than 3 pages, a one paragraph description of your work, and up to 15 pages of poetry or prose within one PDF document) by the November 15th, 2012 deadline. All applications and submissions should be submitted in English, and candidates should be able to speak English reasonably well. A jury of professionals in the field of visual arts will review the applications and select one Laureate based on the work and information you submit in your application package. We will inform all candidates of the jury’s decision by early January 2013.
If awarded, the Fellowship will enable you to travel to and work at the Civitella Ranieri Center for a period of six weeks during the 2013 season (we offer 4 sessions from early May to early November). Fellows are asked to be in residence for the entire length of the period selected. During their stay Fellows are invited to make informal presentations of their past or present work, in any format, to the other Fellows. There are usually ten to twelve Fellows in residence at any one time representing different disciplines and cultural backgrounds. In addition to taking our evening meal together, we offer field trips and excursions to historic and artistic sites and events throughout the area. Partners may join Fellows for the last three nights, four days of their residency for a small fee, and we regretfully cannot accommodate children.
