A. Igoni Barrett (Nigeria). He is the author of the short story collection From Caves of Rotten Teeth and winner of the 2005 BBC World Service short story competition. He is the former editor of Farafina magazine and the initiator of the popular Nigeria-based literary event, the BookJam.
Tiffany Murray (UK). Her first novel, Happy Accidents, was described by one reviewer as “Woody Allen visits Cold Comfort Farm”. She was short-listed for the Bollinger/Wodehouse Prize for Comic Writing, and in 2005 she also received an Arts Council Award. Her second book, Diamond Star Halo is set in the hazy Welsh summer of 1977, and was inspired by her childhood spent listening to famous rock musicians practise in her Welsh borders home. She is now a senior lecturer in creative writing at the University of Glamorgan, Wales.
Phyllis Muthoni (Kenya) has been described as ‘an essential emergent Kenyan poet’. She published Lilac Uprising, her first collection of poetry, in June 2010. Her poetry has received positive reviews from readers and critics: ‘It is a thrilling read, a collection of fantastic poems that converts what we see from the corner of our eye into something kaleidoscopic …’ says poet Stephen Partington. Phyllis has been writing poetry since 2003 and also works as a freelance poetry editor.
